Asian American Women's Alliance (AAWA)
The Asian American Women's Alliance, or AAWA, was founded in August 1996 and is a volunteer-based, non-profit 501(c)3 organization. Our funding comes from generous donors and fundraising activities.
Mission
The mission of AAWA is to establish an alliance of members dedicated to building support among Asian American women in all walks of life through professional and personal growth. AAWA seeks to create opportunities for mutual learning & nurturing, mentor relationships, career & leadership development, personal & group support, and engagement in community services.
Goals
AAWA provides a variety of channels to achieve the following goals:
Community Service and Support
- AAWA is committed to helping others through community service.
- Various community service activities that AAWA participates in include serving meals for the needy, visiting ill children in the hospital, providing scholarships.
- AAWA establishes funds and gives scholarships for education and healthcare in our communities.
- Establish partnerships with existing organizations who share AAWA's vision
Personal and Group Support
- AAWA builds support groups for professional/personal needs.
- Providing a forum for discussion/debate concerning issues relevant to Asian American women (health, finances, career, family, etc.)
- Promoting/advocating cultural understanding
- Creating networking opportunities for career advancement/transition
Leadership Development
- Members develop their leadership abilities learning skills such as public speaking, teamwork, diversity/cultural understanding, risk-taking, and time/stress management while making life-time friends with people coming from all walks of life.
- Some leadership development programs include Campus Camp Wellstone Leadership and Activism Training and the Asian Pacific American Leadership Institute.
Mentoring
- Members of AAWA are women of all different ages, cultures, and backgrounds.
- AAWA cultivates mentor relationships to support other women in their personal/professional lives.
Collaboration
- AAWA establishes partnerships with other non-profit organizations and groups who share AAWA's vision
